Middleton first met Prince William while she was studying at the University of St Andrews in 2001. The couple has been in a relationship over a period of last eight years with two brief splits as the only halts. Compared to Kate-William courtship which lasted over 8 years, Diana-Charles affair was really short.

Even though the Prince had known Diana for several years, they got romantically involved only a year before their wedding. Diana was accepted by the royal family and the Prince proposed her on February 1981.


The marriage of William and Middleton, both 28, will take place in the spring or summer of 2011, 30 years after Charles's spectacular but ultimately ill-fated wedding to Diana.
