Survival

Life in the wild can be so brutal, that sometimes animals are forced to do terrible things to ensure survival. Cannibalism and infanticide are well known in many species, but perhaps the most disturbing cases are those of baby animals killing their siblings, sometimes moments after they are born! This is a list of ten species that start their lives as ruthless fratricides.

Golden Eagle
Fun & Info @ Keralites.net
Like most large birds of prey, Golden Eagles breed rarely, and usually lay only two eggs per nest. Often, one of the eggs hatches with a few days of advantage, and the firstborn chick starts being fed before its sibling is even born. Due to this, the firstborn grows bigger and stronger than the younger chick, and usually wins most squabbles for food. If food is very scarce, the younger chick can eventually become weak and is likely to die because of malnutrition.

But that's not all, if food is extremely scarce, the ever-hungry firstborn will actively kill and devour its younger sibling in the nest, without its parents doing anything to prevent the fratricide.

This provides a valuable meal for the stronger chick, as well as reducing the workload for the adult eagles (it is always easier to feed one single chick than two). Scientists believe that up to 80% of all second born Golden Eagle chicks die like this. Fratricide has been reported in other kinds of raptors, such as the Bald Eagle, but it doesn't seem to be as frequent as in Golden Eagles.

Spotted Hyena
Fun & Info @ Keralites.net
Most large predatory mammals, such as big cats, are born with eyes closed and toothless, in other words, completely harmless. However, that's not the case with African spotted hyenas. They are born with eyes open, alert and armed with sharp teeth, and start fighting each other at a surprisingly early age to establish their dominance, the larger cubs bite their weaker siblings brutally, and although adult hyenas may try to separate them, as soon as the babies are left alone in the communal burrows, they continue with their fighting, battles between hyena cubs can last for weeks.

Baby hyenas have even been known to dig smaller tunnels inside the burrow, and fight inside these tunnels, where their mother couldn't possibly reach them. In some cases, the weaker cubs die because of their injuries, but usually their fate is even worst, after being bullied so ruthlessly by the stronger cubs, they become so shy that they won't even dare leave the burrow when their mother comes home to feed them. Eventually, they die of starvation inside the burrow.

Besides being a strategy for the stronger cubs (the future leaders of the hyena clan) to eliminate potential competitors, fratricide is also a natural way to regulate the population. Indeed, hyenas are the most abundant large predators in Africa, and other than lions, which kill some of them occasionally, they have no natural enemies at all.

Praying Mantis
Fun & Info @ Keralites.net
These predatory insects are famous because of their nightmarish sexual habits, the female often eats the male after sex, or even during sex, usually starting by biting off the unfortunate lover's head. But these cannibalistic tendencies are not just an adult thing. Usually, a female mantis lays its eggs in a special egg case, and attaches it to a stem, leaf or branch. All 100 to 200 baby mantises hatch at the same time, and often their first meal is one of their siblings. This is more common when other small insects are scarce around the area where the baby mantises where born.

These insects are not the only fratricide invertebrates, baby spiders and scorpions have also been known to eat each other on occasion, and in the case of spiders, even the mother may join her babies for a same species snack, particularly if, as is often the case, she has fasted while guarding her eggs.

Our Heroes: Barney Stinson

Barney Stinson
“Our Heroes” is a new feature here at Brosome where we’re going to write once a week about guys who inspire us. They might be TV characters, successful men, dudes who scored successful women and so on. Great was not enough for the first article of this feature and we decided to go for something awesome and the most awesome guy in the world is Barney Stinson, of course.
If you’re familiar with Barney from How I met Your Mother, then you’re a fan of Barney. To know him is to love him and not in the awkward dude-on-dude way.  In the show, Barney Stinson is a confident womanizer at around thirty who wears almost always a suit and likes girls with Daddy issues and is willing to listen to them and offer his opinion to reach his goal. We’d all do that, right?
He will always attempt to manipulate a situation so that it goes his way and he lives by his own rules from the Bro Code, a book which contains a set of rules for bros to follow. The book was actually published a couple of years ago and I received it as a birthday gift from a chick last year but back then I haven’t heard about or seen any episode from How I met your Mother.
The Bro Code was an inspiration for me and even though I didn’t had a clue who was Barnabus Stinson when I’ve seen the first episode of the show I knew he’s the one and I got totally addicted to the show. I even think it should be focused more on Barney because every episode where he’s the center of attention is a lot funnier than the rest.

Our Heroes: Elon Musk

Elon Musk 1
Most of you probably don’t know who the heck is Elon Musk. He’s a billionaire who started a bunch of companies you may have already heard of though, companies like PayPal, sold for $1.5 bil to eBay, SpaceX, which received a $1.6 bil contract from NASA and Tesla Motors.
His current net worth is estimated to be somewhere near $328 mil but Elon Musk is not the type of super smart nerd who became billionaire and has a dull life like Bill Gates for example. What his companies do will probably amaze you: SpaceX, where he’s the CEO and CTO, develops and manufactures space launch vehicles.
On the other side, Tesla Motors where he’s the CEO is the electric car company with the zero-emissions car that anyone would actually WANT to drive. The Tesla Roadster is just as eye catching as any other sports car out there and if you add the fact that it’s electric and surprisingly powerful you just know everyone would want one.
Elon Musk is a visionary and you just know he has a dream life and he’s going to be even more successful in the future than it is today. He is likely to become one of the wealthiest men on the planet if he keeps doing what he does.
But this guy also has incredible taste in women and that’s another fact that makes him one of our heroes. He was married to a quite attractive chick and had a couple of children with her but now he’s engaged with a sweet British actress, Talulah Riley, who is probably the next British sensation.
Unfortunately for him his ex-wify, Justine Musk, is fighting the court battle to secure a few things that she feels entitled to after the divorce. What does Justine want? Not much, just the house, alimony and child support, $6 million in cash, 10 percent of Elon’s stock in Tesla, 5 percent of his stock in SpaceX (but he’ll keep all his voting rights), and throw in a Tesla Roadster as well. That’s a bit too much, right? I would just give her the money, support and a car and that’s it. Want more? You gotta work for it!

Our Heroes: Lance Armstrong

lance_armstrong01
For those of you who don’t know it yet, the 2010 Tour de France will start this weekend and we decided its time to write about the man who has done some pretty amazing things in his life and made a lot of people love cycling, Lance Armstrong.
He’s one of the most recognizable figures in sports and unlike most North American superstars who are only big in US Lance is truly a global figure. His dominance in the world of cycling is the stuff legends are made of and his story is an inspiration for many, many people.
His cycling career started pretty great in the early 90s but in 1996 he was diagnosed with cancer with less than a 50% change of survival. He defeated the cancer that began in his testicle and spread to his brain and lungs and after calling that battle the best thing that has ever happened to him he returned to cycling with ferocity and won a record seven consecutive Tour de France between 1999 and 2005.
But that’s not all and last year our boy returned to cycling after years of inactivity and after competing in some warm up events he raced in the 2009 Tour de France and, at the age of 38, he finished this incredible 3000km race on a remarkable third. In 2010 he’s back again with his own team, RadioShack, ready to win Le tour for a record eight time!
Now you all know that Lance Armstrong has like a legion of fans but during his career he also faced a ton of accusations and unlike other athletes he has never backed away from testing or talking about how he’s clean. It’s nice to see an athlete as transparent as Lance and I remember a poster or something with Lance biking down some road saying “Everybody wants to know what I’m on. What am I on? I’m on my bike busting my ass six hours a day.”

9 things that men should know about women

9 things that men should know about women

Dare-to-dream-men-vs-women
In my morning habits reading my email is somewhere in the top of the list. Nothing unusual until here, no? Of course not, instead of avoiding every source that can ruin our day, we’re so masochists that we just love to read bad news since we drink our morning coffee. I’ve subscribed to some newsletters from women’s magazines, don’t ask me why, I just did it and I can’t answer to this, and… this morning they wanted to enlighten me about one thing: “secrets about women that men don’t know”.
I find sharing of this information among women a complete waste of time, so let’s go to the part where my misogynistic ego is instantly upgraded and transformed into what they can call “The Mind Sperminator of Stupid Women”. Yeah, now, thanks to that article, I am in a new and way better form of misogynist. I will stop resuming myself to look at a stupid woman with sickness, and I will try to show her exactly what her position is for me: a boobs bearing girl and nothing more, good only for meaningless sex. No smartness inside, no feelings, no attitude.
But I can bet you’re already curious what was in that article that made me write this one, no? Let’s see.

1. Only 30% of women reach orgasm on every sexual act

What conclusion can be drawn from here? That 70% of women don’t even know how to or don’t even struggle to get there. No? They have sex just to be done and while they’re doing it they’re thinking if they look fat, if their hair is ok, if they shout too loud or if they don’t shout at all, what they have to do tomorrow, what’s in the fridge and all other shits that can pass trough a woman’s brain. Nothing about what is really happening there, because if they had done this they probably knew that the only purpose of having sex is to get to an orgasm, not to think of the shopping list for the next day. Next…

2. 50% of women have simulated orgasm at least once in life

fake-orgasms-demotivational-poster-1234911437
I don’t want to ruin your self image but I can tell you for sure that at least half of your sex partners have lied you. Don’t worry yet, it isn’t your fault. You had your orgasm, you’ve done your part. They are just too stupid to understand why they are there. Women want to be equal with men but half of them are reducing themselves to a man’s pleasure achievement tool. Statistics don’t lie.

Shocking news

Shocking news from Duke University in North Carolina. We found out next: “A student has been left devastated after an elaborate sex list she created ranking university men she had slept with became an internet sensation. Karen Owen made the ‘unofficial senior thesis’ on her sex life with athletes at Duke University in North Carolina and originally emailed it to three of her friends. But the project spread to the university’s entire 14,000 student body and from there on to websites across the globe.” – dailymail.co.uk

funny newspaper headlines

We’ve all seen some funny newspaper headlines, but the question is can we notice them without other people pointing them out to us? If not then take a look at this list of the funnies and most absurd newspaper headlines. Word pan, misused words and other linguistic tricks can really make the crucial difference in meaning. But don’t forget about our mischievous minds that can give different meaning than is implied.
No kidding.
Not even a mouse could have been seen in wandering the streets.
Imagine how they used to spell before the literacy show programs.

Royal Gorge Bridge is over the Arkansas River

The highest bridge in the world, the Royal Gorge Bridge is over the Arkansas River. This Suspension Bridge was built in 1929 as a tourist attraction near Canon City, Colorado.

The Royal Gorge Bridge is a tourist attraction near Canon City, Colorado, within a 360 acre (1.5 km x 1.5 km) theme park, hanging 1,053 feet (321 m) above the Arkansas River and billed as the highest suspension bridge in the world. The Royal Gorge Route Railroad runs under the bridge along the base of Royal Gorge. The bridge is 1260 feet (384 m) long and 18 feet (5 m) wide, with a wooden walkway with 1292 planks. The bridge is suspended from towers that are 150 feet (46 m) high.

The bridge was constructed in six months, between June 5, 1929 and late November 1929, as a toll bridge, at a cost of $350,000. It was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

The bridge was not constructed for transportation purposes; instead, it was built with the intent that it serve as a tourist attraction, and has continued to be one of the most-visited tourist attractions in Colorado since its construction.

The cable-stayed Viaduc de Millau, completed in December 2004, is the tallest bridge in the world, at 1,118 feet (341 m), but its road/vehicle deck is only 885 ft (270 m) above the River Tarn.

The Royal Gorge Bridge is still the highest suspension bridge in the world, as well as the bridge with the highest deck-to-surface clearance.

All About New Pension System (NPS)

All About New Pension System/Scheme (NPS)
The New Pension Scheme also known as NPS is effective from 1st April 2009.
Under this scheme, any Indian citizen can open the account with the government of India to save for his/her retirement. Well, let me tell you that this scheme is not only for government employees but this scheme is also for the Non-Government employees who work in the private sector companies.

What is the Purpose of NPS?

Let us understand this in layman’s language. Well, purpose of anyone in this world working as an employee is the peaceful retirement. I mean people work hard during their active life so that they can save enough on which they can live after their retirement.

The retirement age in India is 60 years (In very special cases it is 65) but because of the advancing medical facilities, the life expectancy has been increased. Previously people used to live up to the age of 70 years only but now because of the advanced medical services, people live well above 80 years.
And that’s why now the post-retirement life is increased.

Now, the government employees get the life time pension. Well, but what about the non-government employees who work in private sector? Well, they will have to build their retirement corpus by their own and that’s why NPS is the pension scheme for those people who want to build their retirement corpus by their own so that they can live happily on this corpus after their retirement.

Highlights of NPS -

The NPS would be administered by the Pension Fund Regulatory Development Authority (PFRDA).
A Central Recordkeeping Agency (CRA) would maintain all the records (like account balances) related to the NPS. National Security Depository Limited (NSDL) has been selected as the nationwide CRA for the New Pension System.

There would be six Pension Fund Managers (PFMs). The PFM would be responsible for investing your funds and generating returns from them.

There are also entities called Points of Presence (PoPs). The PoP would be responsible for the sales and marketing of the NPS. (These are similar to the distributors for mutual funds).
